My undergrad program had us write Java code by hand for some beginning assignments and exams. The TAs would then type whatever we wrote into Eclipse and see if it ran. They usually graded pretty leniently, though.

It was only if they fell above the knees that made you gay. If they fell below the knee or were basketball shorts, you were fine.

There’s a short story, The Procrustean Petard, where the TOS crew get gender swapped by ancient alien tech. Fem Kirk is basically told he’s (she’s, but the story doesn’t respect pronouns) unfit for duty because he’s so hot his crew and everyone he interacts with wouldn’t be able to resist his charms.

It’s…problematic in so many ways.
