People know what it is. That’s why they’re down voting it. These don’t build communities.
We all have access to RSS and can create our own sets of feeds. Posts are for the things that are worth talking about. Spamming a community makes it harder to find the interesting things.
I haven’t used this in a bit so I thought I’d check it. They somewhat recently updated the desktop program and nothing works at all now. It appears to be just Edge pretending to be another program. It’s literally just a browser, so surround sound doesn’t work now.
It’s a weird thing for them to do. Why would anyone download a copy of edge that can only watch Netflix? You’d just use a browser.
I attach a computer to a TV and open streaming Web sites in a browser. There aren’t much benefits of the streaming devices compared to that unless you’re using surround sound. The Netflix desktop program has surround sound, but that’s the only service I know of.

It sounds neat. Offline maps. If Google hadn’t banned it I would have never heard of it. It’s on F-droid too for those who don’t want to download and install an apk.
For those that don’t know, you can download the latest APK directly. It takes a while for new versions to make it to repositories and this lets you get it as soon as it’s ready.
Edit: someone pointed out that NewPipe hosts their own F-droid repository, so you can add that to F-droid to get faster updates more conveniently.
T Mobile has an app called Scam Shield that seems to do a better job than Google. If a call is identified as a scam, your phone won’t ring. You can report ones that get through. I installed this a few days ago, and it’s much more manageable now. I get something like 20 scam calls a day. This kept 15 or so from ringing.
I have started asking callers various disheartening questions, like “Is this what you planned for in life?”, “Does your family laugh at you?”, “Do your friends have better jobs than yours?”, “Are you an embarrassment to your parents?”. Most hang up, but a good number get upset - I imagine because their parents really are embarrassed by them. One person, whom I asked if he was happy with his choices in life, said “I am in hell”. My hope with these questions is for them to rethink a life of trying to cheat old people out of money.

The real problem is how do we centralize all communities. I mean, there’s a Linux community on lemmy.world, but also Linux Web sites, forums, chat rooms, people on Twitter that post about Linux. Sometimes people talk about Linux in emails, or text messages. They’re probably having in person conversations about Linux. This fragmentation is ruining things.
I found a single prompt that works for every level except 8. I can’t get anywhere with level 8 though.
Rather that individuals setting up or seeking out an instance, I could see institutes whose members produce content using it, but they’d have to really care about avoiding YouTube. Blender foundation is an example, and they have a peer tube instance, but maybe universities, nonprofits, or research institutions.
It’s also a lower case k in km.
Since YouTube’s beginning it has made recommendations without using a watch history. For personalized recommendations, it based them on subscriptions if watch history wasn’t on.
This happened to me a year ago I think. There was no way I was going to turn on watch history. Previously it would make recommendations based on my subscriptions, and that was fine, so why use watch history? It resulted in me almost never using YouTube, and after a few months it went back to normal. Maybe you can wait it out.
I am no fan of Google Messages for Web, but I have no problem with it constantly losing connection and needing to be repaired. This sounds like you have a different issue.
Part of federation is the ability to choose whom you interact with. Email is federated and everyone accepts that you can block certain bad faith actors. The notion that federation implies that everyone can use it in whatever way they see fit doesn’t mean that everyone needs to interact with each other. Facebook is a bad faith actor, and it can go play by itself.
I would like if the preferences let you define your own algorithm too. Choosing from some presets would be much better than being stuck with whatever Google wants you to have, but if the interface let people plug in their own algorithms, then as the community started trying things we’d see some real development in algorithms that people genuinely like and that fit people’s specific desires.
What about all of the other technology communities? Forums, Web sites, chat rooms, books, magazines, local clubs? We need a way to clump them all together and subscribe to them all at once.
I have a fairly new, expensive (not $5000 expensive though) laptop from work. It’s quite a high powered laptop. It’s full of administration crap that constantly runs in the background using 8 GB of RAM and at least 20% of the CPU, nonstop. Daily I run out of RAM and it freezes. I have a 15 year old laptop that, without exaggeration, is faster to use and can run more programs without running out of RAM.
