- Google is set to cut hundreds of new jobs in its device and platforms divisions soon.
- The company has continued to cut its Google Pixel teams, doing so earlier this year as well.
- Rival Microsoft is considering a new round of layoffs next month, per reports.
If this means they quit changing random shit for no reason and focus on fixing bugs, I’m all for it.
Programmers who maintain code get laid off, programmers who create new code get promoted.
These kind of lay-offs always result in more bugs and more fucking up shit for no reason.
It will be the other way around.
more bugs, less features.
The bugs ARE features! Twice the new stuff, half the work! #Efficiency f(ಠ‿↼)z
TIL that I’m cynical. Damn.
Looks like my next but one phone will be a iPhone. I never imagined that I would ever say that. Ever.
Google let me down when visual voicemail (or whatever they were going to call it) failed to appear!
Put GrapheneOS on your Pixel device.
Thank-you.
Off topic: I keep meaning to ask this; am I still able to use wallet like applications to make RFID payments with GrapheneOS?
I’m one of those strange people that spends physical cash like water but much better with electronic currency.
I think that’s the only thing that stops me bar having to get a new battery.
Whether NFC payments work seems very much dependent on what your bank app is allowing. Some banks in the EU have no issues, so you should check what particular payment system you want to use.
In general, chances are low. Some people use smartwatches as a workaround.
I don’t use smartwatches nor NFC payments with smartdevices. My bank card allows NFC payments directly.
[sorry, NFC!]
I’m in the UK. I’ll have to look it up.
