There’s lots of brilliant female tv characters, historical figures, celebs etc. Whose you’re favourite and why?
One woman I admire is Dolly Parton, I’m not keen on her music or films (although joleen is probably one of the best songs ever) but the fact she grew up dirt poor, didn’t give in to signing away her publishing rights, doesn’t give a fuck about comments regarding her appearance, has created loads of jobs in a deprived area via Dollywood, supports gay rights, and helps kids access books all over the world
She seems a like decent person
She’s such a class act!
With heaps of talent and a great sense of humour!
I like Luz from The Owl House. :)
It’s a very sweet coming-of-age show, about fitting in and finding your family without changing who you are.
Oh man. For TV characters there are a bunch. Xena, Buffy, Kira Nerys…I love strong women. And Donna Noble - strong in a different way, likeable and annoying and relatable. Dana Scully for being smart and skeptical.
For real people, I guess I think Marie Curie was pretty badass. Physicist, chemist, female scientist in a time when women were pretty much never taken seriously. Her research into radioactivity revolutionized so much of science and medicine and she did it in the face of soooo much misogyny and xenophobia. She seems like such an interesting woman.
I looooooovveee Buffy, I thought the final season was incredible. I really like how Willow became so strong as well.
I just finished watching Silo and the female lead character is badass 💪
Caroline Herschel’s story resonates with me for some reason.

Something about how little was expected or desired of her, but she kept plugging at things and learning, and excelled. She was short and scarred and disabled but damn she found some cool stuff. There are periods in her life when she was just like “i don’t want to be here or do this” but she just kept making the best of it.
Holy shit she’s amazing! She had a really rough start, but she persevered and achieved what other people can only dream of. Never heard of her thanks for sharing
Jacinda Ardern, former PM of New Zealand.
She was able to get COVID under control so quickly and has made so many positive changes to policies in her country. I know political figures can be polarizing, but I have a ton of respect for her and I wish we had more female leaders to look up to.
Yep there’s so few women in politics and the ones that are get targeted for so much abuse. Ardern seems great lord knows how many lives she saved.
Fun one… I always loved Angelina Jolie. She’s got her own sense of style, she’s very much her own person, devoted to her kids and she does loads for charity. She’s different to others and I like that.
My more serious one has always been Boudica. The Romans destroyed her tribes way of life, flogged her and *** her daughters… she lead her tribe rebelling against them. She had some successes but they lost overall. I’ve always admired that she stood for what she believed in, and lead a group of men in a patriarchal society.
I like Angelina Jolie, as you say she’s a humanitarian, plus she seems like she’d be fun to grab a beer with.
Yes absolutely! I’ll bet a night with her would be a blast
If you like reading up on Warrior queens, Antonia Fraser wrote a book of ancient to recent actual queens and political ones (unfortunately including Margaret Thatcher too) It has boudicca, zenobia, Cleopatra etc kicking the shit out of the Romans (for a while anyway)
I’ve always loved reading about Celtic life and history, they had 10 types of marriage, only 3 of which were permanent. Women could rule independently, own property, take lovers, and go into battle, a fact that absolutely horrified the Romans
That book sounds great!! I’ve never heard of zenobia. And celtic culture seems really interesting I’ll have a Google
