It could have become a cult and has some great scenes but it needed to keep ramping up the madness and peaked about two thirds of the way through, leading to a pretty flat final act. The film felt like it was relying too much on the crazy premise to get people to watch it and wasn’t too worried about them wanting to rewatch it.
As it says, Barbarian and Malignant have the makings of cult classics - they properly deliver and the less you know before watching them the better (difficult when the trailers these days try and give you everything but I went into both not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised).
