Looking to travel in the west/northwest direction this weekend.

    Last time we went east.

Any stop recommendations please, less than 100km from the Melbourne CBD and emphasis on nature/forests?

Currently have Mount Macedon and Lerderderg State Park in mind, but will probably just go to one of them.

Make the most of it and do the following.

Go to Mt Macedon early morning. Park at Camel’s hump and do the walk to the Cross. There and back is about a 2.5-3h walk. Not too challenging, but gets slippery in places.

On the drive back you stop at Lerdederg (if you’re up for it) and do the walk to the dam. It’s like 90 minutes return. You could do the hill climb (gotta cross the dam) which can be a challenge depending on your fitness level.

You’ll we well knackered once you get home.

Thanks MeanElevator. I have a feeling we will just do the Mt Macedon one since my wife is working the next day - we will have a look at them tonight and decide.

Have you gone to Werribee Gorge? The 10km circuit walk is in my starter guide for anyone who wants to do something active/in nature in the west.

Lerderderg is beautiful, the circuit walk there is great but also a fair bit more challenging. There’s rivers to cross, the hike is shorter but a lot steeper. The view at the top is the pay-off, it’s great.

Thanks Thornburywitch :) will check this one too. We might give Lerdeberg a pass actually until later due to the general consensus being a challenging hike (and our fitness levels are relatively substandard)

My dad used to live in the Macedon ranges, I always got a lot of inspiration whenever I stayed for the weekend.
