I wake up at noon because I’m depressed and went back to sleep.
I only do that when the problem space is interesting.
Most developers are just implementing CRUD using a framework that does most of the work. There isn’t the interest motivation to keep on trying to fix things.
Some things we would want to install aren’t in the official repos. Downloading the deb file is a solution to that for newer users.
It’s not attitude they are giving you. It’s strong recommendation. It’s the strong recommendation of the entire Linux community.
Sudo is different than run as admin and is not intended to be used to do things the way Windows does them.
I don’t know that I agree with this for anything but GPUs. There are plenty of distros that are stable and don’t require constant fiddling.
That makes it sound more like it is Linux, but not GNU. Which is accurate
This is entirely speculation on your part.
Google has been more transparent that it happens. Apple is definitely collecting information on everything you do on their devices as well. It may be just as much info.
With their new pay later feature, you know they are at least collecting enough info to make financial decisions based on your profile.
They also collect health data using the watch.
They collect more than that in order to better understand how to keep people in their ecosystem. I’d wager the latter will about cover what OP was surprised by Google capturing.
Microsoft is another story. They are the most valuable tech company in the world right now due to AI. Which indicates that they are training some powerful AI on data that has been gathered in a number of places.
My money is on its not pushing Pro hard enough.
Something I’m not seeing here is many people in the cyber and info security spaces will have a homelab capable of complex configurations in order to mimic enterprise environments for their research.
This could be as simple as a single VM or as complex as multiple segregated networks to try to traverse.
Unless your government id has a PO box on it you’re likely not going to get the results you’re looking for. As somebody else mentioned, that info is public record.
They are absolutely mining data.
I will say that Apple is 100 percent collecting your data. Health, financial, biometric, anything you put in an Apple Device is subject. Like most large companies, the are probably also purchasing profile data from Acxiom and Experian.
I don’t know if they are doing it with this service but Apple is definitely not respecting your privacy. If you are concerned about privacy, you’re better off trying to use more specialized tools for a job than any singular ecosystem. Apple wants everybody to be in their single ecosystem to better build profiles in their systems.
Back in my day we just looked at photoshopped pictures of celebrities like respectable men!
I just now discovered why people are hating on Ubuntu pro by receiving a note that Ubuntu will not provide security updates for some apps it came with unless you activate Pro.
I think I’m done with Ubuntu on any personal machines.
I believe the answer is no. I think it installs over Wi-Fi, fine, so long as the adapter isn’t a weird of brand or something.
I have one for work and I’ll say it’s high, sometimes. Can sounds like a jet engine.
My Darter does not have that issue, though.
One of the biggest things I’d point out for security is that unless effort is made to ensure people are upgrading, more systems on Linux is going to mean more versions of the kernel being on more machines.
It will result in a lot more machines running versions that have known exploits open against them so malware will become easier to propagate on Linux in general.
I just took it favoring a daily driver for gaming and every distro it gave had either didn’t work, isn’t optimized for, or requires additional config for gaming.
Honestly, this is exactly what I thought the complaint was going to be when I saw the headline and it’s getting me thinking. Does Starbucks allow split payments between two methods. If not, that’s the solution to this problem is require them to.
I end up having a bunch of gift cards to Starbucks through the year because my father in law knows I like coffee so he gets me Starbucks gift cards, not because I love Starbucks but because he can get them on Amazon. I’ll have to try this out next time I’m nearing the bottom.
I will say, the stars that build up over the course of my gift card draining more than pays for the dollar or change at the end with free drinks. So it’s never really bothered me that much, but now I’m curious.
Working as designed. I should report myself for the things I’ve said.
