  • I’m sorry I am not trying to dispute the spirit of your respose but I have to disagree, freight trains are thousands of feet long and haul unbelievably large quantities of material, the idea that it is inefficient to have a human (really a pair of humans) oversee and be responsible for a machine that large is laughable honestly.

…so is the idea that there is a genuine shortage of people willing to work as conductors, it is a convenient lie companies tell to rationalize why nobody wants to work for them because they pay shit and respect their employees so little that they won’t even give them unpaid time for necessary doctors appointments (see recent action of US train workers).

This point is even more true for passenger trains.

It is a massive responsibility we can afford to pay two humans to do it, a certain micro amount of inefficiency is ok.

  • Side note for anyone reading, if you have an android please get f-droid, the google play store is an apocalyptic shithole and is 100% untrustable for finding safe functional apps, even very simple ones like a flashlight app or basic image gallery browser.

It is honestly apalling and I don’t know how any google employees working on android get home from work at the end of the day and feel ok about the impact on the world of the thing they are working on.

The play store is an atrocious, embarassing failure that actively makes the life of anybody who interacts with it worse.

  • lol ok

It isn’t robbery if the builders that built your house put hidden trap doors in it and periodically sneak in to steal things and take photos of your private life, it is just a normal, safe part of owning a home and keeping it secure!

Surely the homebuilders dont make a killing selling all that private information on the side… and surely they dont keep all that private information stockpiled in a large centralized juicey target for criminals!

  • I use Square Home and for my icons I use the Shimu Icon Pack. I jack up the icon size to fill the square home squares, turn off text and leave it at that. Simple square shapes (why does everyone lovvvveee rounded???) with clean and colorful pastel colors, just the way I like it!

I don’t know, I was originally a big windows phone fan because I loved how minimal and clean the UI is. I still still think the entire phone market has been going the wrong way ever since with 3d backgrounds, super high resolution wallpapers, lots of fiddly animations and text heavy interfaces which makes no sense, after the 1000th time looking at your home screen you are literally never reading any of the icon text?? You aren’t consciously perceiving a highly detailed background. So why have it? Do people really think that the way the human brain works is after the 1000th time looking at a familiar scene the brain’s visual perception literally reads the same damn tiny text over and over again? That would be an exhaustingly inefficient way for the brain to process the world.

Ughh I hate how android is either an apple cargo cult or somehow even worse.

Welp, at least I can set my launcher to whatever I want!

(High resolution cool backgrounds are cool, not trying to hate on other people liking them).

  • I’m talking from a perspective of reality. What you “predict” or “feel” or imagine the industry is or going to be, doesn’t really interest me much.

Damn… not sure how you work in an industry that requires good interpersonal skills with an attitude like this but you didn’t really listen to what I was sayimg at all. I am not defending AI or even claiming it can actually replace human graphic designers in any serious fashion longterm.

Let me lay this out for you really simple, this is a class war, and vapid MBA majors who will always placed by the ruling class in charge of most graphic design jobs don’t give a flying fuck if AI is a scam, the whole point of being a business major is to scam people At the end of this when the AI hype bubble bursts yall aremt getting your jobs back, and even if you do those jobs will no longer be the good quality sustainable jobs they used to be because you will be seen as an expensive temporary stopgap to AI.

It is hilarious given that you are a storyteller and artist by trade that at this late stage in the game you actually genuinely believe the truth actually matters here compared to the economic narratives set by the ruling class…and yeah you mighttt personally get lucky and be fine for the rest of your career but how cruel and naive too use your experience as a device to divorce your empathy from lesstalented/experienced graphic designers following in your footsteps.

Stop being a coward and hiding behind the niche little square you have cut out of your industry to support yourself, stand up and actually defend the futures and quality of life of the countless younger versions of you getting ground to dust by the industry before it is too late and you handed away the future of your career to capitalists and foreclosed the decency of life in getting into your career.

Like wake the fuck up please, this is catastrophic for graphic designers and it has nothing to do with whether AI works or not

  • I get sooooo much schadenfreude from programmers smugly acting like their jobs aren’t going to be obliterated by AI… because the AI won’t be able to do the job correctly, as if that matters in this late stage of collapse and end state capitalism.

Y’all (programmers and tech people) cheered this on and facilitated the ruling class destroying countless decent, good careers and now it is everybody else’s turn to laugh at programmers as they go from having one of the few non-dysfunctional careers left to being worthless chatgpt prompt monkeys that can never convince management they are valuable and not just a subpar, expensive alternative to “AI”.

This is going to be awful, but that doesn’t mean I can’t find the silver linings!

Maybe if programming wasn’t full of overconfident naive libertarian adjacent people y’all could have stopped this by unionizing but again… just check hacker news and all the boot licking for the ruling class there to see why that didn’t happen lol.
