Well, they’re the only other game in town unless you want to sit back and let the fascists take power because people stayed home like they did this year, our hands are pretty much tied come election day. And that is a fact I will keep repeating as long as people refuse to understand that our country is run via electoral politics and no amount of sitting out will change that.

I’m all for getting better candidates on the ballot, but when the only alternative is naked fascism, telling people to stay home or not vote for them is a great way of shooting your pet causes in the foot.

We already know how we got here, which is why it doesn’t help anything to bitch and moan about how “both sides suck”.

Clearly, given how the power structure is doing things differently, right?

Quit your bitching and infighting and blaming everyone else, and focus on what we can do now.

Yeah, try to get the establishment to understand a lesson on what failed and have them finally back policies that will encourage people to show up so I don’t have to spend 6 months begging people to vote for them because they fucked the dog yet again?

    Judge by what he accomplished

Getting said literal fascist elected by doing fuck all to solve the problems he said he would, gave said fascist a pass by assigning a mealy mouthed investigator, and hanging out in the race long enough to help depress turnout?

We can play the blame game all day, but unfortunately what’s done is done and the time to take action is yesterday.

We also need to understand why we got to this place, and saying “who the fuck cares” just emboldens the Dems in power to keep trying the same shit that doesn’t work.

  • But you still need to be aware and watch fees and shop around.

Ironically, that’s why I’m at a bank and not a credit union. The CU I was at a decade ago was awful and charged fees for stupid shit. I found a student checking account at another bank that was free (and I still have the student checking years after being out of school lol), and eventually gave me a credit card that has given me thousands in cash back while I haven’t paid more than $10 in interest in like 7 or 8 years.

  • Dude in iT, never had that problem and even doubled my salary through linked in. Anytime I actually interact with a recruiter I lay down my bare minimums and won’t even bother responding further/block if they can’t hit that.

That said, LinkedIn is a shit hole not worth touching more than once every couple of years if you’re not looking for a gig. I don’t even really interact with people I actually know in there because the platform is terrible and 90% of public posts are from sociopaths who despise work life balance.

  • Since they handle redundancy and backups I think it’s fine staying with them (+ great product)

This. I love self hosting services, but anything that I 100% can’t live without isn’t one of them. Because I don’t have the funds for proper redundancy/high availability, and my backup practices at home are… Not ideal. I’ve had a couple brushes with data loss due to gaps in backups, lack of monitoring for impending hardware failures, and had 2 disks suddenly die together in a raid array, all in over a decade of self hosting.

I have cold backups of most of my critical services, but they’re not nearly regular enough for me to trust my passwords to myself.

  • Unfortunately, you’re right about as much as the original meme is. At my current gig, I’ve worked with half a dozen PMs, and while the majority of them were (seemingly) sweet and nice people, at least half of them would struggle to pour piss out of a boot if you wrote instructions on the heel. Even with project templates and runbooks, we still regularly had to clean up after them because they didn’t do part of the project or expected us to work on stuff that wasn’t marked as being live yet.

  • Depends on the CFL. I had to replace one in a fixture in my new house a few months after I bought it, and it was some goofy round one with a rectangular attachment point and some clips. Thankfully it was pretty easy to replace and was easily gettable from Dom Depot, but I was definitely surprised by the socket when I went to replace it.
