Newpipe breaks very often for me. Freetube breaks less

because macos fanboys are rich hipsters and spend large amounts of money on software and accessories for their already expensive computers. Linux users usually aren’t very alike, the first 4,5 % isn’t anyhow.

It is. I use it as such regularly. Keyboard+mouse+screen = browsing firefox as usual. Works quite well. Libreoffice, okular, signal desktop… I’ve used worse computers in recent years, steamdeck desktop experience is better than many 4 to 5 year old cheap laptops with win10 or win11.

If you properly use firefox personalised the way you want it, it gives you shitty unusable websites in Europe too. Banking says no, newspapers being buggy to unreadable with certain script blocking or cookie refusal, disable adblock to continue windows etc, it all exists here too. I always try ff. If really needed I open the shitty site in edge and afterwards return to ff… Also public (tax payer funded!) flemish radio and tv for example is completely unusable in ff with proper settings, works “perfect” in edge or chrome. German and Dutch public TV and radio works fine in ff tho.

It just got pushed too far. Like Google search itself. Most people are fine with a short ad once in a while, while paying with their invaluable personal data, but they push it too far and make it unwatchable, like Google search itself became garbage because of all the Google pushed SEO bs.

yeah maybe i’m dumb, but for example in the put a few cities widget they offer, I don’t seem to have the option to show for example air pollution instead of temperature. Bummer.

It’s small, but growing very fast. While actual PC has stagnated, no?

They’ll try to dominate the way the protocols evolve. Try to push more and more crap into it because they’re too big to ignore. Insert becoming ad, bot, corporate friendlier stuff. Fediverse doesn’t need meta. It’s nice and cosy and rather friendly here, I’ld like it to stay that way. It’s like Google dominates some “open source” and pushes browsers towards more and more DRM friendly etc. We don’t need that.

Moving to piped, invidious, freetube etc is what most with big enough outrage are doing (including me) but let’s face it: that’s just kicking the can a bit further down the road. Can’t “FOSS” YouTube, what they’re rendering usable again still is fully owned by Google and they’ll look in to deploying techniques to put an end to that Foss frontending too, eventually.

Just the fact you’re not using the thing most other people use makes you stand out.
