I remember being young and making bad political decisions. If my generation got to do that why not gen alpha? I hope the legacy my generation leaves behind helps gen alpha elect the leaders that they want without being fooled by the lies.

This happens in close source software too. You just don’t find out about it until it gets bad enough.

Proprietary software just feels gross, low quality, and opaque. I want to feel like I’ve actually got some kind of control over the computers I own. Windows was feeling more out of touch with software developers. Installing a compiler in Linux is super easy compared to Windows.
Open source plus profit motive equals spicy. This isn’t a new problem. You can look at the history of how Windows was trying to fight Linux. It wouldn’t surprise me if Microsoft started trying to take over Linux again in 10 to 15 years.
If it was just that they were repackaging source code and putting it behind a paywall, then there would be no problem at all.
The problem is, as I understand it, that they are selling modified GPL code without giving people access to it. That’s against the GPL license. Out of all people, Red Hat should be aware of what the GPL states.
So I think it’s pretty fair to accused Red Hat of being intentionally evil here. If it was just a mistake, then I’d say it’s a very very dumb mistake. Either way, if these are the kind of people who run Red Hat now, things don’t look good.
