  • They have already practically ended it. The official process makes the user jump through so many hoops - registering account, using it for 30 days (!!!), installing their app, begging for unlock through it, getting random errors which the official support refuses to explain (!!!) and only after that having the chance to try to hit the daily unlock request window which lasts less than one minute each day (!!!) - that it is practically non existent. Fuck the fucking fuckers.

    1. Well, not really, not in any practical sense. It’s hard to customize it in a sense you can customize a linux distro or desktop environment, it’s hard to script things on Android, it’s hard to access filesystem etc. You have to do everything “android way”, not “Linux way” - the skills you may have from one platform are not transferable to the other.
    2. Oh, let me tell you about that. I have an Xiaomi phone purchased about 2 months ago, based on supposedly unlockable bootloader… and I haven’t been able to successfully jump through all the hoops they put in the way of unlock in this whole time. Their support is completely useless, the community is full of people with same issues and no solutions and every unsuccessful attempt at unlock pushes the next one one day or two weeks (!) into the future. Fuck this shit. All I’m asking is ‘sudo’ on a “Linux” computer I bought.

  • Don’t try to host your own email server, at least not at the start. It’s really hard and the main issue is not technical - makn issue is fighting with big providers so they don’t refuse your mail.

Instead, use a professional mail provider allowing custom domains (I use mailbox.org). You can still keep using your domain for web / http access for other services you selfhost, you just point mail-related DNS records to the mail provider (they all have guides about how to do that).
