Recently in Dusseldorf a pizza place was raided by the police. You could just order pizza from them, but if you put in a special order you would get cocaine. The whole thing was just a front for dealing drugs, but they were pretty successful as a pizza joint.

Yeah I’ve had that one happen. Big team, more than a year of work, thousands of hours, over 1500 of my own hours. Internal presentation to the team at the customer end, they loved it and couldn’t wait for actual launch day. We were all so proud and everyone was happy.

Alas that day never came, the customer went bankrupt due to one of the investors pulling out. Nothing to do with us, just some bean counter did the math and decided they were better off letting the company fold.

I spoke to one of the people at the customer we had worked with throughout the project. She was devastated it was all for nothing and she lost her job as a result. By the time a new investor came around to pick up the pieces, she had found a new job. Spoke to the former ceo of the customer, he had a new job for a couple of days a week at the company that bought up the remainders. He fought to get the project going again, but the new company is very non IT focused, oldskool. So they vetoed it. I later found out one of the project leads was consulted and he had pretty much killed any chance. I always disliked that dude, but he got a pretty good deal out of it or so I’m told.

That’s just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

My first computer was an MSX (the model in the vid, not the same one alas) in 1984, it opened up the world of computing for me (hence my username having the 84).

I have DOS 2.0 running on that thing with FAT16 support, so that means folders and it can (in theory) handle 4GB of data. If I would have told my young self that, my head would have both literally and figuratively exploded.

Function generators have come down in price so much the past 10 years or so. In the past a good function gen was a very specialized expensive piece of kit. These days you can get a pretty decent unit for not much money at all.

When I first got this monitor powered up, the vertical deflection was totally collapsed. Turned out two transistors were acting weird. They weren’t broken exactly, but not acting like they should either. Without a function gen I would not have caught that as quickly as I did.

Wow that’s awesome man. Glad you added the ‘since childhood’ part, I was feeling a bit old.

I’ve fixed up a lot of CRTs, but this one is kinda special, since it goes so well with the MSX system.

The sonic shockwave moving through the clouds visible on some of the footage was amazing and then the shockwave bounced on the ground and back into the clouds a couple of seconds later, so amazing to see. I hate Elon Musk, but that they pulled this off is incredible.

And then you end up way too hot because the cat is on top of you. Or the asshole just takes up the whole bed like it’s theirs and when you try to push them to the side they get annoyed because you are taking up room in THEIR bed.

Nothing, Nintendo can wipe it at any moment. The dev will probably not get sued if he removes the game at the first request and since he hasn’t monetized it in any way. But if Nintendo feels like it he can definitely get sued.

We can hope Nintendo let it be, but in the past they’ve killed many fangames like this one. Like the 2D OOT which was very good but got wiped by Nintendo.

I did the exact same. Google Play Music was actually a good service back in the day. I hated it when they turned it into YouTube Music. I complained about all the broken stuff, so they gave me a home speaker for free and upgraded me to YT Premium for a year. After that year I stuck with YT Premium, since it was less than $2 extra. They also fixed a lot of stuff I complained about. Not everything, but a lot of it. I think YT Music was released a bit before it was ready. Now it still has some issues, but is mostly fine.

Usually I watch 1 or 2 YouTube videos a day and without Premium I would most definitely not. I opened a YouTube video on a computer I wasn’t signed in the other day and it started with a 2 minute unskipable ad about crypto stuff (an obvious scam). So I closed it real fast, no video is worth sitting through that. Even with Premium I still need SponsorBlock. But with that combination watching videos is actually fun.

Still listen to YouTube Music all day at work, so that’s a good value for money for me.

I accidentally opened linkedin the other day. Holy shit what a bunch of trash. It used to be a business networking site. Now it’s just a shitty Facebook clone. My time line was full of memes and dumb shit. It was also full of people I don’t even know.

I only used LinkedIn in de past to give other people I worked with recommends. It was always appreciated. Now I think I will delete my account.

I have an MSX from 1984 permanently setup on my desk. I use it regularly to play some old games. So about 1983-1984 games are the oldest I play often.
