  • I think the federated social media that is coming now is a great thing. It’s fantastic. It’s back to the old architecture, partially. But, I think it has unintentionally imitated some of the design patterns that exist on the current “they” internet. Among them:

You don’t control your experience. That is designed and curated for you by “they.” You can configure it, but you have to turn in a formal request if you want to make changes outside the parameters, and since you’re requesting someone spend significant effort on you who doesn’t know you from a can of paint, the answer is probably no.

Could you clarify what you mean by this? I assume when you say “they” on the Internet you talk about the Internet’s commercialization and commodification by companies. In what way is the Fediverse curated for you by “they”? Is it the news and other external links people post?

What kind of sample size of comments or time length would the bot use to make a decision? Is it safe to assume that those new Troll accounts would fly under this bots radar?

Edit:Also is there a functionality where we can look up a user using this tool? I would be interested in seeing some users I’ve interacted with in some political and news related communities.

The fediverse’s decentralization is meant to circumvent this possibility. It’s all too easy to ignore one or two bad instances if it comes to that. No matter how big they get. It’s part of the reason you don’t see the lemmy.world instance in the lemmy server browser. It forces people to spread across the instances more instead of lemmy.world taking the direction of the fediverse wherever they see fit due to how many users they have. As long as the admins continue to respect this viewpoint, enshittifcation of the Fediverse will be postponed.

I get the point this post is trying to make and I do agree with it, but this seems to be a pretty bad example. The headline for Walz seems to be a display of how far he’s gotten in life. A classic “American Dream, from humble beginnings” story that seems to be more and more distant these days.
