For insurance to cover it the data tells them whether you are using it or not. If you don’t meet the minimum usage they won’t pay for the machine. Buying it yourself negates that, but they can get spendy.

Yes, and one of the reasons I want to keep it going. It’s an old Fujitsu and has a cool form factor (another reason). I recycled about a dozen laptops a few months back, but could not bear to see this one go. It came with XP, but I don’t care to reload that at all. Am also downloading older versions of Slack to see if they’ll work.
I have an old laptop with a Transmeta Crusoe CPU. Can anyone recommend a distro that will work on it? I’ll download this one and give it a shot too.

7·7 months agoWhen I was a yout (maybe eight?), my friend and I would read comic books and on the back cover would be the sea monkey advertisement we’d seen for years. The one with the obviously sentient sea monkey lord with his trident or something. Terribly curious about it, one day we finally decided to pool together our meager monies and order some.
We had no clue these were brine shrimp or anything like that. They were sea monkeys! After several weeks an envelope showed up and we followed the directions to start our tiny civilization.
We checked on them for the next couple of days and we finally saw activity. We got pretty excited about the whole thing and as boys are wont to do, we got to wrestling and ended up knocking the sea monkey kingdom from atop his dresser down to the carpeted floor of his room thereby dooming the sea monkeys.
We were a bit devastated. After all, it was our first destroyed civilization.

6·9 months agoSomewhat curious how CZ has never worked for you. I’ve used it for years and any failures it has had were fixed with tweaking some of the options. I love the tool myself, but I have also never heard of Rescuezilla so thanks for that. I think I’ll give that a go next time.
