I remember people going crazy about it when Apple introduced it, and then I saw a video of it in action and was like, “is that it?”.

I’ve never really liked any other launchers I’ve tried, but this one does look nice.
For those who have used it, how does it improve on the standard Pixel launcher?
Because e-ink displays are a lot better to read books on than a phone screen.
I switched from Samsung to Pixel and I’m on my second Pixel phone now and they’re great. So much better OS and smoother than OneUI ever was.
iVerify vice president of research Matthias Frielingsdorf points out that while Showcase represents a concerning exposure for Pixel devices, it is turned off by default. This means that an attacker would first need to turn the application on in a target’s device before being able to exploit it. The most straightforward way to do this would involve having physical access to a victim’s phone as well as their system password or another exploitable vulnerability that would allow them to make changes to settings.
Just a bit of alarmism then, with something that can be easily removed in an update.
My Pixel 4a’s battery is on the wane, so this may be my next phone.
Probably wait for a price drop though because I’m not desperate for it at the moment.
If security is your prime concern, then I definitely wouldn’t use an “all-in-one” messenger service.
Just need passkey support on mobile and we’re all set.
(I don’t know if the article mentions that, my adblocker prevents me from reading it)
This is why I love my Pixel 4a. I think it’s like 5.8 inches and it’s just the ideal size to use comfortably and fit in my pocket.
Brace yourselves, “fascists won’t be able to follow me” posts incoming.
Just started using Pachli, which is a fork of Tusky with extra features like auto refresh of timelines and translation of posts.
“We don’t want to interact with those toxic people from Threads”
“But I’m okay with Threads federation”
“WTF? You must be a fascist. Go suck Zuckerberg’s dick, loser”.
The irony is hilarious. And they wonder why more people aren’t open to joining the Fediverse and instead stick with the corporate sites.
FFS, all the constant hysterical posts about Threads on here are worse than all the Elon Musk ones.
Well, that’s spam. So obviously it would make sense to block that.
This is why I don’t understand all the hysteria about this.
If I don’t want to see Threads or I don’t want Threads to see me, I can go to a Threads account and click “block threads.net”.
But obviously that’s too complicated and it’s easier to just whinge to your instance admin about how Threads federation will be the death of us all. 🙄
If you’re already up and running on Mastodon and can interact with people on Threads, there’s literally no reason to swap one for the other.
Being able to interact with anyone regardless of what sites you’re members of is a good thing. That’s one of the main selling points of the Fediverse.
Don’t join any of his sites then.
Simple.
What better way to show how all-in you are on the idea of the “open web” by… err… blocking another website from interacting with you. 🤷
Well, I’ll show him because I’ll build one!
Oh wait, that’s the company name. Never mind.
