Why are people so vindictive and personal, and why do they double down so enthusiastically about taking it to this personal place where this person involved is being bad on purpose and needs to be attacked for being horrible, instead of just being a normal person with a variety of normal human failings as we all have?

First time on the internet? This happens everywhere, more so when you’re anonymous or pseudonymous, but whenever you’re behind a screen and everyone on the other side is just a username being controlled by an idiot or a troll.

Yeah, definitely seems like it’s just a particular slang/style for people in that specific group. I’ve been online for a long time now, I used txt tlk when tech limitations actually necessitated it, but swipe keyboards have been faster to use for at least a decade now so I dunno why some people still type that way!

Maybe it’s because I never used Tumblr, but most of this just infuriates me. I’m sure it has a lot of meaning to those in the know, but I usually assume that if you’re typing like that then you haven’t learned how to speak in full sentences yet.

It’s much better to go online and mock obvious jokes as if they’re serious problems so everyone knows what a virtuous person you are!

To be clear I think using “liberal” to mean “socialist” is just as stupid as using it to mean “economically neo-liberal”. Most dictionary definitions concentrate on the actual definition of the word in everyday usage and then also mention the political theory definitions. Choosing your insult to be a word that most people assume means something else is a terrible way to communicate.
