Who’s the crazy conspiracy theorist now? Jeez…
Yeah, you might not be applying to the same jobs a random stranger on the Internet is applying to. Fair assumption.
Now that this is out of the way, I do also have a family to feed, and am employed. I’ve never not had a job since I left school (and before that, too). But the job searching experience is unnecessarily soul-crushing, because some people in the recruitement chain aren’t displaying the level of professionalism they expect new hires to show. These people are scum, and I’ve had more luck recently sidestepping them outright (they were pissed, and I don’t care). I landed my current gig because I knew someone that helped me bypass all the bullshit, and talk to the real adults in the room directly.
HR drones are really demanding, and it’s fair to be demanding in return. They don’t get to treat people like shit and get respect just because some people are desperate.
I’m not telling you what to believe or how to behave. You’re entitled to your opinion.
Exactly what I was about to reply. Try copying a crazy multi-column Word document into text, and you’ll get similar results.
Copy-pasting parts of your PDF document is not any more difficult than doing the same thing for a Word document.
We don’t care, it’s their job. I get that they’re busy, but it’s their problem, not mine. No excuses for these scumbags.
You can extract text from PDFs without using OCR, they aren’t all images embedded in a file.
I’m sure you’ve opened PDF documents before and selected text in it, or searched for something. That works because the text is embedded in the document, I’m sure.
You can also create PDF documents with the text converted as images, but those are usually larger in size.
I had to switch recently because I wanted to try out font ligatures and it turns out Alacritty refuse to implement support for that 😬
I’ve had to turn off RCS because, when you don’t have WiFi/great cellular data access, you can’t do shit. I couldn’t even open the messages app.
Is Groovy still a thing?

Some on Lemmy are still pro-LLMs. Quite a lot of folks actually.
The brilliant minds of Lemmy yesterday: " we’re way past caring about GHG emissions" when talking about the LLM-craze of 2023.
Nice!
Multiple votes is not why we have secret ballots IRL. Votes during referenda where you don’t vote for one candidate are also secret.
The purpose of secrecy is to protect from repercussions (ie worker vs boss, person vs family, tenant vs landlord…)
I’m not being pedantic. It matters here, because your votes can have repercussion if they’re easy to see at all times. I don’t want to be harassed because I downvoted an obsessive tankie.

I have better things to do with my time than just complain to admins/mods/mommy all day long.
I had to go through the experience of blocking stuff twice, and if I had to do that more, I’d just leave. I don’t have time for that kind of toxicity in my life.
Yes it is. They might not bother most of the time because it’s annoying. Having vote information accessible at a glance might create a situation where people have more sterile discussion and create more drama about votes because they see it. And that sounds annoying.
I hope I’m wrong.
I know it is, and I find it to be a pretty ridiculously complex fix for a self-inflicted wound.
The disruption it’s caused me outweighs by far any minor inconvenience with the multiplication or micro packages in the NodeJS world. There’s that, and the Python 2 vs 3 shitshow from which the world still hasn’t fully recovered from yet.
I mean it: Python has no business laughing at Javascript. Get your act together, snek 😜
Python has other stupid problems related to pip. As much as stupid micro-dependencies suck in Javascript, they’re not the shitshow managing dependencies in Python is. It’s an inefficiency that never actually caused me noticeable issues in my former webdev life.
And let’s not talk about C++… People reinvent all sorts of wheels all the time because sharing anything is so annoying.
I think I’ve made my case here, everything I could respond to that is visible in the exchange we’ve had. Good night!
The facts are there: the consumption of animal products the way it is done across the vast majority of the planet is not something you can rationalize: it’s bad for the consumers, bad for the environnement and, most of all, bad for the animals that are being slaughtered on a massive scale.
Don’t fool yourself: I’m not talking about the act of ingesting the flesh of dead animals, which could theoretically be done in a way that doesn’t have such a strong negative impact on everyone involved. I’m talking about what’s happening in the real world, which is very far from idealized “what if” theories that are pretty unattainable, and an artificial debate construction carnivores use in debates with vegans.
You and I consume animal products. The difference between the two of us is I find the moral objections to the consumption of dog meat to be rationally indefensible, and pretty ridiculous.
Do consume animal products if you like. I’m not a vegan, and I would be hypocritical to judge you based on that. Whatever you do though, just don’t make the mistake of assuming your moral system is universal because it’s pretty illogical.
In short, get off that high horse.
What makes it worse though is that the outcome is a lot less uncertain, and the picture is really bleak.
