  • I have numerous machines and use several. On my main, KDE because of all the customization. Widgets, window styles, colors, themes etc. It’s really like exactly how I want for maximum efficiency and productivity.

I’ve got gnome on my hybrid notebook and my transformer pad because gnome with Wayland is amazingly compatible with touchscreen.

I have one machine running Elementary which has the Pantheon DE it’s kinda like Gnome with modifications.

And finally, I have an older system so just for efficiency, LXQt.

I do enjoy trying out different ones and especially more esoteric ones that I occasionally come across.

  • Yeah that’s what I’m saying. Certain things will be global, but in terms of repair availability etc. you follow Louis Rossman? He’s been trying to get right to repair in Congress and meanwhile the lobbyists keep pushing back and some manufacturers are starting to just plain go evil. The shit some of them are pulling - in many industries. So I’m just saying we will get the kind of advantages that just have to be included due to logistics, but anything that’s local regulation we are getting worse and worse in the U.S.A. companies are rapidly jumping onto new levels of evil and the FTC has only now got a woman with balls - pardon the expression - but they can only do so much and it’s not even enough.

  • Wow! I think Louis Rossman will be happy about this, although the U.S.A. lobbyists are most likely trying to push in the opposite direction. I mean, we stand to benefit in that manufacturers are unlikely to make different models, but anything beyond the physical can be differentiated by region so they can continue to screw the consumer senseless in U.S.A. while the EU actually continues to do good for the consumers.

FRP does not mean stolen phone. More often than not it’s one of many many other reasons. But that’s fine you don’t do something you’re not comfortable doing. Totally respect that. It’s just a very quick thing to conclude when more often that’s not the reason.

Also, I know many ways to do it and have succeeded on many, but sometimes something in the phone is glitched. As is the case here.

  • Ok my friend, here is my bunch of devices that I have available for customization. My idea situation would be anything that lets me get the best out of the device. If that means Lineage, or Havoc, or any of the other dozen or so ROMs, or even just GSI or AOSP. Barring any of those as an option, root access at least so I can manually debloat it a little.

    My devices

  • I just wanted to let you know I have not forgotten; I’m working on compiling an album of all the devices I’d want to consider. It’s a fair bunch, but honestly whatever insights you could offer will be so appreciated, and if you have no ideas I will still appreciate the effort. I should have it posted by later today.

  • The real goal that the community should be working on is to strengthen the political efforts to give people the rights to do whatever they want with phones they PURCHASE, and prohibit manufacturers from locking them down so the OWNER can’t make any changes. I would totally accept that it voids the warranty because they can’t cover all the bricked devices that result from reckless modding… but there should not be allowed any barriers between the OWNER and the software within.

And the reason for my emphasis of certain words is that the corporate world is really truly beginning to indulge the delusion that nobody ever owns anything and that purchases consumers make are merely the manufacturer granting them the privilege of indefinite loan. It all needs to stop hard and now.

  • Yeah neither adb nor fastboot see it.

This really sucks. It would seem it’s bricked, but then I have read lots of articles that swear that it is not hopeless.

The problem is LG has purged all files related to this device. Any download links or menus etc. you can find lead to dead links. I spent many hours and checked easily like 20 websites. There’s absolutely nowhere to be found an original rom image. Nada, nischt, zilch, bupkis, squat. Even the few XDA mentions are dead links :-(

I’d love to get it running again, but for now at least, I have stuff to do so this goes on the back burner. I have it in my box should I ever want to take another crack at it.

Say… you feel up to a minor challenge? I have like a dozen devices and I wish to document what are the possibilities for each of them, vis-à-vis alternate rom such as havoc, resurrection remix, etc., or aosp / gsi, or just rooting if that’s all that can be done. This way I can know what to prioritize trying.

I gotta tell you I find the XDA forums to be absolute chaos and incoherent. I’ve tried very sincerely to make sense of it, but sometimes I go to the forum for a device and it’s post after post with titles that don’t even contain a single actual word, it’s just acronyms and version numbers. And I’m sure that makes sense to the pros, but I can’t even figure out where to look for a starting point. So that’s why I’d like at least to catalog my options and then I can proceed knowing I’ve got starting points to look for.

If you’re up to it let me know I’ll post a pic of all the devices labeled. No worries if you’re not interested, I know it’s a pain in the ass what I’m looking for. Anyway thanks for trying to help with the LG. I’m not giving up hope yet, I love that little phone it’s sweet.

  • So, I’ve managed to get it into downloading mode by holding both volume up and down while powering it on.

Problem number one is there’s a utility that most articles reference that starts with like “B2C…” something and it says it’s supposed to download a huge file and eventually prompt you to attach the device. But it never gets to that. I have let it sit for hours. My thought is that whatever was on the other end it’s supposed to get in touch with is not there anymore.

I’m wondering if I could flash like an AOSP version or something. LG doesn’t have the rom on their site anymore, nor do some of the sites that claim to. They just send you into loops of clicking.

    So, still working on it.
