AI summary:

A Chilean journalist, Gonzalo Lira, who had been living in Ukraine, was arrested by the Security Service of Ukraine on suspicion of pro-Russian sympathies and criticizing the government. He had been detained before in April, released, and then rearrested for voicing views critical of the West and Ukraine’s government. He faced torture while imprisoned, then managed to post bail but decided to flee to Hungary for political asylum. He believed the Ukrainian government was setting him up to be arrested again. He went missing after attempting to cross the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. The situation highlighted concerns about free speech and the treatment of dissenters in Ukraine.

If that’s true why aren’t the mainstream propaganda outlets all over this story to make the Russians look bad?

Because they don’t particularly care about a Chilean journalist who made a fool of himself in front of a mediocre historian. If they aren’t reporting much about an impending war in Africa, what makes you think that they’ll write about some obscure independent journalist from the Manosphere? Nobody has sympathy for him. He’s no Washington Post journalist.

While I admit I didn’t know about him before he has 85k subscribers on YouTube so he’s hardly obscure, you are just trying to discredit him. Nobody has sympathy for the Ukrainians either, least of whom Zelenksky who is sending them to die. They just pretend to care because is what the tube tells them to do, while the ruling class privatizes the whole country.

I’ve been here for more than a year, I think it’s more like liberals have discovered Lemmy after the Reddit blackout. I can confirm it was good while it lasted, you didn’t hear so many sarcastic comments before.
