It should be a price upfront. Instead it bakes ads into the app, ads which aren’t even present on the instances. I find it a bit disrespectful towards the hosts who maintain their instances for free and only ask for donations.
Proprietary and actually read the privacy policy, it’s really unsettling

Sync is out of their fucking mind with pricing. They were my preferred reddit app, but not for Lemmy
Oh BEYOND out of their minds. Sync is certainly a great app. But like, I can buy a game for what they wanted. I was a Boost user on Reddit, had that labour of love feel to it.
It wasn’t a labor of love if he was charging for it, it just had a “small time dev” feel. A dev that just happens to have a fanclub encouraging every single decision he makes, no matter how dumb.
Let’s also not forget he tried to make it a subscription at release, only to quickly walk that back once people got pissed. He claims it was always the plan to have a one time charge, but seeing as how he wants as able to add it within 24 hours, there’s no real reason why it couldn’t have been there at release date except that he didn’t want it to be.
I am loving Voyager app too much. Not going back…

Funny to see all the Sync hate, when in that last client pole it easily took 1st place. =)
The $20 no ad fee was a bit shocking
As a long time Sync user I guess I already knew Sync was my long term client, and $20 for an ad free version for the lifetime of the app doesn’t sound so bad. The developer is great with adding things the community wants and updates frequently. But having a choices is always a good thing!
Counter-Strike 2 and Boost for Lemmy releasing at the same time. Let’s go! 😁
