For those who don’t know, the Ruth stout method is just laying your seed potatoes on the ground of covering with straw or hay.
I did not water these, and once the plants died back I just raked away the straw and these potatoes were laying on top of the soil, or about an inch deep.
They are tiny because I ended up planting them later than I should have and the heat was too much for them in the middle of summer.
Overall it was a great trial run and I plan to give it another go next year.
That sounds intriguing. So this is basically a no-dig/no-till method of growing potatoes? Does it work with all varieties and when should they be “planted”? I’m very curious to try it for next year.

Exactly! As far as I know, it should work with any potato.
For next year I’m planning on starting in early spring. I may even do a trial run of late summer/fall planting for the end of this year.

The Ruth Stout method is really amazing. And it also works with other vegetables.
So far I’m using it for zucchinis, tomatoes, corns, eggplants, squashs and beans.
Using hay (fresh grass and dried ones) if you have a large garden is really nice.
