This is pretty much how I left academia lol, took me 10 years to build a lab and get a tenure (european citizenship, with social benefits and stuff), regret nothing.

i know of at least one academic who runs an only fans with her husband for basically this reason

It won’t pay enough to cover your bills, but as supplemental income it could work.
